This past Thursday, Jim told me that he wanted to be baptized as an adult Christian. He asked that we contact our former Pastor, Lee Galucki to perform the ceremony in Jim's home. Baptism is something that Jim had originally wanted to do last year at our annual church picnic (where Chris was re-baptized), but he didn't feel like he was ready.
Tonight he was ready and we (our small group) were privileged to have been a part of something so special to him. We have captured this photo as a way to document the event. Hopefully by viewing it, you can sense the sheer jubilation that he experienced. Watching the expression on Jim's face as Lee poured water on his head and provided a blessing, was simply put -- amazing and something I will not forget. His reaction -- a face that went from pale to filled with rich color, an expression of extreme joy, and wonderful tears streaming from his eyes as he smiled.
The bible says that God keeps our tears in a bottle forever and cherishes each one (Psalm 56:8). Likewise, I will cherish this photo and my memory of tonight as my dear friend experienced the sacrament of baptism surrounded by those who love him.

Stephen, what a great picture and experience it was to see Jim get baptized. When Jim teared up after Lee poured the water on him we knew right then how important this was for him. We will never forget it either. I'm so glad we were all able to be there to share this together as our original small group.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this picture and moment with us. I love to see God's people take that step of faith to be baptized and this blog made me smile! I'm so glad Jim got to experience baptism at this time when his eyes are focused on eternity!
